Just as Chevrolet is basking in the glow of the new Equinox, GMC is launching its own version of the well-regarded compact SUV. The Terrain is simply an Equinox, only with GMC’s brutish styling liberally applied. Power comes from a 182-hp 2.4-litre four-cylinder engine and an optional 264-hp 3.0-litre V6, with a six-speed automatic transmission. Front- or all-wheel drive is available, and the Terrain gets the same excellent fuel efficiency as its Chevrolet cousin. Exterior styling is boxy and macho, with squared off fenders and a huge chrome grille. Inside, GMC uses red gauges and touches rather than Chevrolet’s blue.
