Buick is aiming high thanks to some new product, and the new mid-sized 2010 LaCrosse (nee Allure) is shooting straight at the class leader: the Lexus ES 350. The LaCrosse uses all of GM’s renewed enthusiasm to deliver a car that can quite seriously take on the best from Germany and Japan. The CX and CXL are powered by GM’s new 255-hp 3.0-litre direct-injection V6, while the CXS uses a 280-hp 3.6-litre V6. All models get a six-speed automatic, while all-wheel drive is optional on CXL. Buick isn’t holding back either as heated and cooled seats, adjustable magnetic dampers and a 384-watt Harmon/Kardon audio system are standard on the top-end CXS. Sharp styling inside and out polished by global design studios.

Pros

Best Buick in decades

Cons

A shame no one under 65 will buy one
