Acura doesn’t seem afraid of controversy, and the new 2010 ZDX will surely cause plenty on its own. The five-seat crossover uses a mix of MDX and TL mechanicals to deliver a five-seat four-door ‘sports coupe’ a la BMW’s X6. The 300-hp 3.7-litre V6 and six-speed automatic transmission deliver class-leading fuel efficiency, and acceptable acceleration, doing the 0-100 km/h dash in a tad over eight seconds. The cabin is designed to focus mainly on the front two passengers, but another three can fit in the rear seat if needed. However, the sloping rear screen means anyone closing in on six-feet tall will have problems back there. The interior treatment is familiar to current Acura owners, but uses materials a cut above current models.
