It’s hard to mistake the Avalanche for anything else thanks to those big flying buttresses between the cab and bed. But they ensure that the truck’s trump card can be played: the foldable mid-gate turns the Avalanche from a five-seat SUV into a pickup with an eight-foot bed relatively easily. Power comes from the ubiquitous 310-hp 5.3-litre V8 in either rear- or four-wheel drive. Interior is shared with Tahoe, Suburban and Silverado.
