With Volkswagen abandoning the Jetta City for 2010, the Golf version is the only model left to wear the City tag. It’s essentially a two-generation old Golf with a facelift, new transmission and modern interior. That means the bugs have surely been sorted by now. Power comes from a lethargic 115-hp 2.0-litre four-cylinder with either a five-speed manual or excellent six-speed automatic transmission. Low cost of entry means things like air conditioning and grab handles are optional.
