The five-seat Subaru Forester SUV enters its sophomore year without any changes, mainly because the package is so good. Power comes from a 170-hp 2.5-litre four-cylinder boxer engine, or an optional 224-hp 2.5-litre turbocharged version. The base version uses a five-speed manual, but the rest use a four-speed automatic. All Foresters use all-wheel drive. Like all Subarus, the Forester drives securely, with a dose of fun and stability thrown in for good measure. The cabin is spacious, and the cargo area is huge, easily carrying large, bulky items.
