The Subaru Impreza hatchback won’t see many changes for 2010, after significant changes and upgrades in ’08. The 170-hp 2.5-litre four-cylinder boxer engine provides good torque, and it comes with either a five-speed manual or four-speed automatic with standard all-wheel drive. The Impreza is a solid driver, with good steering and go-anywhere feel. The cabin is plasticky, but can be optioned out with leather seats, satellite and more. Rear-seat passengers are well cared for too, and the cargo area is generous.

Pros

Rally-inspired performance

Cons

Homely design
