To call the Cayman simply a Boxster with a roof doesn’t do it justice. In fact, the title of mini-911 would be a better definition. In the most recent update, Porsche let loose the restraints that held the Cayman back from the 911 in terms of performance, and the results are spectacular. Power comes from a 265-hp 2.9-litre flat six-cylinder, while the S gets a 320-hp version. Equip the S with Porsche’s seven-speed PDK and the Sport Chrono pack, which adds adjustable suspension and a more aggressive throttle map, and the Cayman S is faster than the 911 in the 0-100 km/h sprint. Fantastic.

Pros

A performance bargain – compared to a 911

Cons
