Mercedes-Benz’ most popular SUV remains the ML-Class, which offers a good blend of luxury and style. Power comes from a 268-hp 3.5-litre V6, a 210-hp 3.0-litre turbodiesel V6, and a 382-hp 5.5-litre V8. All engines are equipped with seven-speed automatic transmissions and 4MATIC all-wheel drive. Unlike some competitors’ SUVs, the ML is fully capable off-road too. The cabin is bright and tasteful, and offers good space for five people and their luggage. All the usual toys are available at a price.

Pros

Familiar, but still capable

Cons

Not terribly exciting
