If you’re not toting a pair of children around with you, why not go for a two-door version of Mercedes-Benz’ best car? The CL-Class shares most of its mechanicals with the world-beating S-Class, including its 382-hp 5.5-litre V8 and 510-hp twin-turbocharged 6.0-litre V12. The CL550 comes standard with 4MATIC all-wheel drive, but the CL600 is forced to try and squeeze all that torque through to the rear wheels alone. However, a Cray computer’s worth of safety systems are on board to ensure the driver never notices. Interior shares most bits with the S-Class too, meaning top-notch materials, and excellent design. Rear seats are usable too!

Pros

Ultimate empty-nester machine

Cons

Doesn’t handle terribly well
