Ultimate luxury sedan, now with better fuel mileage

The S-Class gets a mid-life freshening for 2010 that includes some very subtle style changes, however the biggest news is the introduction of Mercedes-Benz’ first hybrid-electric vehicle. The S400 Hybrid uses the 3.5-litre V6 and an electric motor powered by a lithium-ion battery to deliver 295 horsepower through a seven-speed automatic transmission to the rear wheels. It delivers improved acceleration and class-leading fuel efficiency. The rest of the lineup carries over, meaning a 335-hp 4.5-litre V8, a 382-hp 5.5-litre V8, and a 510-hp twin-turbocharged 6.0-litre V12. The V8’s get seven-speed autos with all-wheel drive, while the V12 uses a heavy-duty five-speed automatic with rear-wheel drive.
