Mercedes-Benz’ entry in the premium sports car segment received a refresh for 2009, so 2010 should hold no surprises. Power comes from a 228-hp 3.0-litre V6 or a 268-hp 3.5-litre V6. A six-speed manual is standard on the base SLK300, but a seven-speed automatic is the more popular option. The folding-metal hardtop goes down in less than 30 seconds, and the occupants are quite well protected from the elements. The cabin itself is spacious given the SLK’s size, with a chunky steering wheel and good sightlines.

Pros

Happy to be sports car or highway cruiser

Cons

Not quite on par with rivals
