The Navigator uses the bones of the Ford Expedition – and long-wheelbase Expedition Max – to fight the full-size luxury SUV battle. Both are equipped by a 310-hp 5.4-litre V8 with a six-speed automatic transmission and four-wheel drive. An independent rear suspension means the Navigator is more composed over rough terrain than other big ‘utes. Seven seats are standard in both, but L adds extra cargo carrying capacity.

Pros

Big go-anywhere hauler

Cons

No small diesel to offset fuel costs
